Crocosmia
Crocosmia is a member of the Iris family producing brilliantly colored, exotic-looking, tubular-shaped flowers that branch out into a freesia-like flower spike. There are several different variations of the Crocosmia, all of which are amongst the most colorful flowers you can grow. Flowers come in bright vibrant colors of fiery scarlet, red, orange, and yellow which bloom steadily from mid-summer through mid-fall above decorative clumps of erect, sword-shaped leaves.
Magnets for hummingbirds and butterflies, the impressive blossoms give way to seedpods that persist into fall and attract hungry birds. Crocosmia tolerates both full sun and part shade but does require well-draining soil. This is an easy grower, multiplies readily and comes back year after year. A truly dramatic look in the garden and as cut flowers in a fabulous summer bouquet.
